Nancy Downs (born 1936), known professionally as The Craft, is an American author best known for her 1976 novel _The Witch of Edmonton_, which was adapted into the 1988 film _The Witches of Eastwick_.
Downs has written over 20 novels, including _The Handmaiden’s Tale_ (1985), which was adapted into the 1990 film of the same name, and _Alias Grace_ (1996), which was adapted into the 2017 Netflix series of the same name.
